Literature Text

She enters as softly as a baby’s breath,
in a sea of gray-white mist, floating
as quietly as a new dawn.
There is nothing so pure;
nothing as beautiful as the fair Innocence.
A light glow radiates off of her
pale purple-pink skin.
Long strands of spun gold
flow from her hair,
carried from a wind that doesn’t seem
to exist.
Her robes of silver thread hang gracefully
from her body, swaying with every step.
She speaks not,
only smiles like she has a fond secret that she cannot tell.
Eyes, blue and icy as a cold winter’s morning
with reflections of tiny stars sparkling.

By her side, a small white fox
rare in these parts and even rarer to be seen
in a human’s companion.
She carries in one hand a book,
bound in white leather and gilded on the side
in pure gold; the book of innocence.
On the cover, a small detail that can’t be
looked over, is a unicorn, the purest
of all creatures in the forest and
her guardian daemon.
The creature cannot leave the forest
but she carries him in her heart as well.
Nothing can hurt her and
all who stand in her presence
feel cleansed, refreshed and anew.
We were instructed to write a "Spenserian Virtue/Vice Description" in my British Literature class & I wrote about Innocence. This piece personifies a feeling, emotion, or vice.
